Shumar geog consists with 20 villages with 621 households and 5789 population. It covers an area of 92.01 square kilometers bordering with Trashigang and Mongar Dzongkhags. Tseri and dry land cultivation is prevalent with maize grown as the cereal crop. The oranges and potatoes are also grown as the main cash crops. With over 18 kilometers of district road and 17 kilometers of farm roads Shumar is one of the most accessible geog in the Dzongkhag. The Dzongkhag headquarter is located in the Shumar geog. It is potentially for the dairy farming, piggery, poultry, fishery and horticulture development. The geog has excellent cover of school with HSS, one MSS, one LSS, and two CPS. It has planned to establish one ECR in the 10th FYP.
