Unveil the hidden gems...

Take home a piece of PemaGatshel’s living heritage! Chongshing Gewog is known for Thongsa Kamthagma weaving. Thongsa Kamthagma is hand woven by the women of the Gewog using native cotton, which they cultivate. The cotton yarn is dyed with native indigo plant, which is also locally cultivated, along with other natural dyes from wild local plants and minerals. The uniqueness of Thongsa Kamthagma lies in its traditional methods of cotton production and weaving, preserving an age-old craft that highlights the community’s dedication to quality and cultural preservation. Given the artisanal nature of cotton and natural dye production and weaving, each woven item is unique and production is extremely limited. It is possible to visit the Kamthagma Weaving Group centre to admire and purchase these unique and beautiful woven items. The product from the cotton is normally pure. It was also observed that cultivation of cotton is a tedious job as it requires constant field management and nurture. For purchases and orders, please contact: Namkha Wangmo Secretary Khangthagma Weaving Group +975 17 95 50 33
