On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, 25th November 2015 a sponsor walk was organized in the morning followed by an awareness show in the evening, both at Nganglam and Pemagashel town to create awareness on violence against women. The reason for organizing the walk at both places is because Pemagatshel dzongkhag has 11 gewogs of which 3 larger gewogs of Dechhenling, Choekhorling and Norbugang are under Nganglam Dungkhag. It was merged to Pemagatshel Dzongkhag in 2006 from Samdrupjongkhar Dzongkhar and it is located 250 km away from main town of Pemagatshel.
Hundreds of participants led by Dasho Dzongrab from Dzongkhag administration, Pemagatshel MSS, volunteers, RBP and others joined the walk to mark the day. It was followed by an awareness show organized by MSTF/CBSS members at guest house especially to dedicate and commit to Stop Violence against Women. The show was staged by the students from Ngangkor HSS and RENEWS volunteers from the Dzongkhag. Moreover, the chair person Dasho Dzongrab talked on the importance of the day, while Dasho OC briefed the gathering on the legal procedures on the prevention of the Domestic Violence and gender based violence.
Led by Dasho Dungpa and Dasho Drangpoen, over 250 people of Nganglam Community in Pemagatshel observed International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women by walking across the town. The participants turnout is high for a population size of Nganglam. The walk promoted gender equality and community ownership of such important issue.
