Yurung Gewog is located in the North West part of the Dzongkhag with an altitude ranging between 1275m and 2975m above the sea level covering an area of approximately 28.2 square kilometer. The gewog consist of 5 Chiwogs namely Khangma, Doongsingma-Thoongkhar, Bangdala, Wanglakha- Thonggo, and Yurung with a total of 21 villages. It has a population of about 2742 consisting of 389 households with 10 staff which includes Gup, Mangmi, 5 chiwog tshogpas, Geydrung and a Gewog Administrative Officer. The Gewog center is connected by 42 Kms of farm road via Denchi from the Dzongkhag headquarter. It is also accessible through feeder road connected through Tsebar and Thongsa.
The main food crops grown is maize and the food crops like millet, sweet buckwheat, soya beans and spring wheat are grown in small scale. The vegetables like chili, turnip, radish, bean, rajma bean, cabbage, cauliflower, garlic and carrot are also grown. The vegetables are mainly grown for self consumption. The main cash crops grown are citrus (oranges), potatoes. Some of the farmers have also started growing cardamom as the main cash crop. The Gewog is known for producing Yurung Buray which are sold in small scale for income generation.
The Gewog has all the basic infrastructures needed for the public to avail basic services. The Gewog has one RNR center, one Middle Secondary School, one Community Information Center, one BHU Grade II, one Primary School, one Sub post and 12 community and private Lhakhangs with 174 Chortens.
